The terms ‘benchmark” and “benchmarking are often used interchangeably, but they are very different concepts.   A benchmark is a measurement or target, a goal to be achieved. Benchmarking is a process used to improve a process.  We offer both the benchmark and benchmarking services.

APQC uses this definition, “Benchmarking is the process of identifying, understanding, and adapting outside practices from organizations anywhere in the world to help your organization improve its performance.”

Benchmarking is useful in helping the organization set, accept and accomplish stretch goals.

We help you identify and arrange benchmarking visits to companies who have world-class processes.

We also conduct benchmark surveys, similar to a wage survey.  These are useful when you need benchmark data and you are having trouble gathering it, especially from competitors.  Most companies will participate with a third party, like BaldrigeCoach.com who will present anonymous results to each participant.  Several Baldrige recipients have used this service to improve their performance and their Category 7 scores.
